Accreditation, Double-Majors, Cross-Enrollment, and Certifications at MMDC: What You Need to Know

At Mapúa Malayan Digital College (MMDC), we aim to provide our students with a clear understanding of essential educational topics, including accreditation, double-majors, cross-enrollment, and certifications. These aspects play a vital role in shaping your academic journey and ensuring that your efforts align with your future career goals.

Recognition of Credits in the U.S.

For students considering transferring their MMDC credits to U.S. institutions, it’s important to understand how foreign credentials are evaluated. The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) assesses international academic records, including those from the Philippines. However, whether your credits will be accepted depends on your program’s accreditation.

Currently, MMCL programs (including those offered by MMDC) are not ABET-accredited. ABET (Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology) is an internationally recognized accrediting body, and its certifications are widely accepted by U.S. institutions. If you plan to pursue further studies or transfer credits to the U.S., you may want to explore programs at Mapúa University, which offers ABET-certified programs. This could help ensure that your educational credentials are recognized and improve your chances of having your credits transferred smoothly.

Double-Majors at MMDC

At MMDC, our programs are designed as standalone degrees, each with a dedicated focus on a single field of study. At this time, we do not offer a formal double-major option within the same program. However, if you’re interested in pursuing another area of study, you have the flexibility to complete your first degree and later apply to a second program at MMDC.

While this approach allows you to focus on one field, it also provides the opportunity to broaden your academic qualifications by pursuing a second degree once you've completed your first. Keep in mind that applying for a second degree requires meeting specific admission criteria and fulfilling additional coursework requirements.

Cross-Enrolling at MMDC

MMDC does not allow cross-enrollment. Students who are currently enrolled at another institution cannot take individual courses at MMDC while maintaining enrollment elsewhere.

Regular vs. Irregular Students at MMDC

MMDC doesn’t use the terms “regular” or “irregular” to classify students. Instead, we offer flexibility in course selection, allowing students to create a learning schedule that fits their personal and academic needs. Each program provides a recommended curriculum plan to guide students through the courses they should take to complete their degree on time.

While students have the freedom to choose their courses, following the recommended course sequence helps ensure timely graduation. If adjustments are needed for personal or other reasons, academic advisors are available to help students develop a customized plan that meets their needs without compromising academic goals.

Certifications at MMDC

While MMDC does not offer professional certifications like Cisco certifications (e.g., CCNA), our programs provide the foundational knowledge and skills necessary to prepare for these certification exams independently. Our curriculum equips students with the tools and expertise needed to pursue certifications like Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) after graduation.

Upon completing their degree, graduates will earn a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) from MMDC, a CHED-recognized institution. This degree opens doors to various career opportunities in the IT field, and graduates are encouraged to continue their professional development through independent certification programs.
